Match Results:
Player Comments:
- "Very long drawn out match, pretty much ever game was a deuce or 5. Alex had me on the ropes plenty of times. Always a pleasure playing against Alex, thanks for the tight match." -- Tim
Player Comments:
- "Really enjoyed the game with Ollie, the scoreline demonstrates his strength as a player and I was out played. It was a great evening and a very enjoyable game for me with some good rallies at times before he got the better of me." -- James
Player Comments:
- "An enjoyable game on a beautiful summer's evening at the extremely pleasant Leader's Gardens courts. Much closer than the score suggests, the main difference being that I was more match-fit than James (who needed a court that was six inches longer and a net that one inch lower)." -- Simon
Player Comments:
- "Closer than the score suggests. An up and down game from both players. Some good points and rallies too, I was lucky to get the win in the end but on another day it could easily have been the reverse scoreline. " -- Ollie
Player Comments:
- "9 times out of 10 Edd would beat me. In fact, he pulverised me for most of the first set in much the same way that George Foreman beat the shit out of Muhammad Ali for the first few rounds of Rumble in the Jungle. The similarities end there as Ali had a plan, whereas I have no idea how I won the first set from 5-2 and a couple of set points down. But the impact was the same, Foreman was knocked out in the eighth round and Edd lost a game of tennis to a vastly inferior opponent. I have to say I'm not looking forward to our next 9 matches as I used up all my luck in this one. " -- Simon
Player Comments:
- "James was a great opponent and we had a brilliant game with many points, that in terms of drama, wouldn't be amiss at Centre court. The tennis gods were on my side today, but another day it could've been a different score line completely. Thanks for a great game James, I look forward to another in the future." -- Will
Player Comments:
- "Tim and I had a brilliant match! A great guy with a fantastic style of tennis. Every game was greatly contested with some unbelievable points to top it off. Will definitely look to the next game with Tim. Cheers mate!" -- Will
Player Comments:
- "Closer than the score suggests, Alex fought every single point on the hottest day of the year. His resistance was only really broken, along with his serve, in the multi-deuce second game of the second set. Having lost too many matches from a winning position, I am in no doubt that this was a pivotal game." -- Simon
Player Comments:
- "Ludicrously hot day on the black tarmac at King Georges. I may have got the win but the real winner was suncream!" -- Ollie
Player Comments:
- "Benefiting from Tim' rustiness after returning from an injury in the first set, I fortunately managed to get over the line in the second set just as he began to get his eye back in. Had it gone to a third, it would have been curtains for this old man." -- Simon
Match of the Group:
Reveal CommentAlex Beaumont bt Will Lusted (Jun 12) 6-4, 2-6, 7-5Player Comments:
- "I have no idea how I won this match - but a great game! 1st set: very close, with me eventually set point with a shot clipping the top of the net. 2nd set: completely one sided - Will stepped up just as my game completely abandoned me. It was 0-5 before I snuck in a couple of games. 3rd set: pretty tight games but Will raced into a 5-2 lead and had several match points (I think he was even 40-0 up!!). God knows how, but I somehow took him to deuce, won the game and then won 4 more consecutive games to take the match. At 5-5 - and 2 1/2 hours - I half-collapsed in a cramping fit but just about recovered to carry on! Some great (and long!) rallies. Will was unlucky not to close the match out but both agreed it was a great match" -- Alex
Player Comments:
- "Great game and a great welcome to the league for me from Simon. I look forward to another competitive game in the future. " -- Will
Group Summary:

The commentaries show that all matches were played in a really friendly spirit - great job everyone.
