This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

Reveal CommentSimon Gravatt bt Jonny Thomson (Jul 23) 6-4, 0-6, 6-4

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "The second set, when I barely won a point, was a true reflection of our relative abilities. I don't know how the other two sets went the way that they did, but I'm very pleased that they did. It made an old man very happy!" -- Simon
Reveal CommentRoland Godfrey bt Ramon Lucia (Jul 21) 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5)

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "An epic match lasting over 2 hours and 45 minutes, with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster ride at Thorpe Park. Some of the rallies felt like they would never end, particularly on the big points. Credit to Ramon for fighting back despite being 3-5 down in the second set and taking it to a decider." -- Roland
Reveal CommentAndrew Yule bt Joseph Harker (Jul 19) 6-1, 6-2

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Good match, on a hot, sunny evening. Played on for a couple of friendly tie-breaks in the fading light - we took one a-piece, which shows set scores can be misleading! A lot of tight games. Thanks, Joseph - enjoyed it. " -- Andrew

Reveal CommentRoland Godfrey bt Joseph Harker (Jul 16) 6-4, 6-2

Reveal CommentRamon Lucia bt Simon Gravatt (Jul 13) 6-3, 6-3

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "As usual another long long match with Simon, with plenty of Deuces and long rallies. He turned his game a bit more defensive than I could remember and it paid off as he took the first 3 games. Luckily after that I got more consistent and despite the long games I took the match" -- Ramon

Reveal CommentSimon Gravatt bt Andrew Yule (Jul 2) 6-1, 6-0

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "A typical English summer's day meant we were mainly competing against the elements - strong & variable cross wind, blinding sun, torrential rain, intermittent clear spells. As this is standard fare for local league tennis, I was able to draw on my greater experience of playing in conditions that make the game unrecognisable from the one that being played up the road in SW19 at the same time." -- Simon
