Player Comments:

  • "Good to play Abdullah at a breezy Walmley Tennis Club! Although we played some great rallies, he had the edge with some powerful forehand and backhand shots which I struggled to desl with. Despite struggling with his serve in the second set, he still got over the line convincingly. Thank you for the game Abdullah and I look forward to playing you in the future." -- Dougald
Reveal CommentRichard Stevenson bt Lewis Sweeney (Mar 12) 7-5, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "This was the 1st time that I've played against Lewis. We played indoor at Tudor Grange. Lewis has a bubbly personality and has a shared love and enthusiasm for tennis. Lewis breezed to a great early start, 3-0 up and was serving really well and hitting some quality forehands. Thankfully I managed to hold my serve in the forth game , which disrupted Lewis's rhythm. I somehow managed to claw my way back into the game and take the 1st set at 7-5, it was very close. Lewis started strongly again in the 2nd set and had an early break. I think some frustration set in as I managed to break back and take the lead for the win. I feel pretty lucky that I won today as Lewis is all round a better player than I. Thanks for the game Lewis."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Lewis Sweeney (Mar 9) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to meet and play Lewis for the first time at Marston Green. It was a close competitive first set. I was 5-2 up when Lewis had 3 favourable net calls to break my serve! He held his own serve before I was able to serve out the set. Lewis struggled a little n the second set and I was able to take it reasonably comfortably. He still showed glimpses of his powerful serve and forehand but needs to add more consistency to his game. Thank you for the game Lewis and I look forward to playing you again in the warmer weather. "  -- Dougald
Reveal CommentMajid Rezadoost bt Dougald Weir (Mar 8) 6-4, 7-5

Player Comments:

  • "Today the weather was very cold and the wind had a very bad effect on the game. The game between us was very close and I enjoyed being able to play with Doug again and I thank him very much"  -- Majid
Laurence Chan bt William Hughes (Mar 7) 6-0, 6-1
Dougald Weir bt Eldin Basic (Mar 5) Walkover
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Abdullah Alam (Mar 5) 6-3, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "It was great to see this match played, as both Abdullah and I struggled to fit it in. In the end our efforts were recompensed by a glorious weather in Malvern Park! The difference was made by my serve, which worked pretty well, while Abdullah struggled with his. I noticed great progress in Abdullah's game, especially with regards to taking the initiative on longer rallies and not being shy to dictate play and to go for big shots on the back of soundly constructed points. Thanks for the match Abdullah, looking forward to the next one"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Majid Rezadoost (Mar 5) 6-2, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Having played Majid in the Edgbaston League last week on a slightly slippery court and on a cold evening, it was nice to play in better conditions in Solihull this evening. It also enabled Majid to play much better. He made me work hard for many points, his powerful first serves were difficult to return and many games went to deuce. We only just finished our match before it got dark. Majid will undoubtedly improve with more matches and I look forward to our next game. "  -- Richard
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt William Hughes (Mar 3) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was nice to play Will again and to notice sound progress compared to our previous match. His shots are better and his position on court improved, however his inconsistent or... tentative serve is not allowing him to get into the points much. Thanks for the match Will and keep up the good work!"  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentLewis Lydon bt Lewis Sweeney (Feb 29) 6-1, 4-6, [13-11]

Player Comments:

  • "Me and Lew are close friends and it was a very fun game to play and very tense! He has improved so much since I last played him keep going Lew! "  -- Lewis
Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Richard Stevenson (Feb 26) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Good to see and play Rich again having last played him before Xmas. I took the first set despite some dogged resistance from him towards the end. In the second set the quality of the play improved and there were some lengthy exchanges between us. All good for burning off body fat! I took the second set and the match with perhaps a little more consistency in the rallies. Thank you for a very enjoyable game Rich and I look forward to playing you again hopefully outside in better weather. "  -- Dougald
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Lewis Sweeney (Feb 25) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "A lovely morning at Malvern Park with two other tennis league players on the next court. Great to play Lewis again as we have a good game played in the right spirit. The scoreline is harsh as Lewis was struggling with an injury, which really affected his game. I hope it's feeling better soon and I look forward to our next game."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Lewis Lydon (Feb 25) 6-4, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to meet and play Lewis for the first time at his local tennis club in Marston Green. In the opening games we both gave our serves away before normal service was resumed. I broke late in the set to take it. In the second set I found some fluency and consistency and took a 4-2 lead before an epic game on my serve which must have gone to 7-8 deuces before I held and got over the line. Lewis was always in the points with an effective angled forehand and displayed some great athleticism around the court. Thank you for the game Lewis and I look forward to playing you again in the future. "  -- Dougald

Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Laurence Chan (Feb 25) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to play Laurence again in almost ideal conditions in Malvern Park. The match was easier than expected, as even though his overall ball hitting improved, Laurence missed too many serves. After the match we played rallies for another 20-25 minutes, which was a very pleasant practice session for both of us. Thanks Laurence "  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Lewis Sweeney (Feb 24) 6-1, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "Good to meet & play Lewis for the first time. Although we played in glorious sunshine, the courts were quite slippery after the overnight frost. As a consequence, both of us had to hold back a bit, both with our movement on court and with our shots. Having said that, a good number of high quality shots were hit. Overall Lewis was less consistent and he handed over a lot of free points. Although he did not complain about it, it was obvious he was a bit uncomfortable with his tennis elbow injury. Thanks for the match"  -- Vlad

Player Comments:

  • "Great to play Rich again after nearly two years. Another enjoyable match and chat. The set scores are harsh on Rich, who played some good tennis and hit superb winners too. We absolutely made the most of our two hours by playing a couple of friendly sets afterwards, with Rich playing his best tennis in the final one and winning points with some excellent shots. An enjoyable evening of tennis. Thanks."  -- Richard

Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt Laurence Chan (Feb 17) 6-4, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to play Laurence again at a cloudy but mild Malvern Park. The first set was a scrappy affair with both of us double faulting far too much and trying to outdo each other by giving away our serves! In the second set Laurence continued to struggle. I managed to find a little fluency and consistency from somewhere but the second set scoreline was still flattering to me. Thanks for the game Laurence. Hopefully on another day we can both play good tennis like we have done in the past. "  -- Dougald

Reveal CommentVlad Giurcaneanu bt Dougald Weir (Feb 8) 6-1, 6-1

Player Comments:

  • "Both Doug and I looked a bit rusty on the day, the consequence being a high score on the unforced errors charts for both. As the match progressed, consistence and quality increased, reflected in closer games in the second set and in a great comeback from Doug in the (friendly) third. As usual, a great pleasure to play Doug and looking forward to play again - hopefully outdoors, so we can wrap the match up with a long chat and a few beers. "  -- Vlad
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Vlad Giurcaneanu (Feb 8) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "As we play on a regular basis, Vlad and I have to decide which game to play as our league match and this time opted for Thursday night indoors at Tudor Grange. Strangely, neither of us played as well as we have done in recent friendlies. Vlad deservedly edged the first set with a couple of excellent games when we were tied at 4-4. I then knew I needed to make a fast start to the second set, which I did, and that was enough to level the match. At 1-3 down in the final set, I resorted to fighting for every point and luckily managed to get the win. Not necessarily deserved but I don't think either of us would say we played our best tennis. Fortunately, there was time for a couple of beers afterwards. Always a pleasure, Vlad. Cheers."  -- Richard

Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Dougald Weir (Feb 4) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Always a pleasure to play against Doug and we've now played many times so know each other's game very well. Despite many long rallies and games going to deuce, I always seemed to find a way to win games. That was until the friendly sets at the end, in which Doug had more success in winning some games. I look forward to playing again and hopefully we can play outdoors with some warmer weather and potentially a beer to follow, although we may have to organise a match when we're both in Spain for that to happen! Thanks for the game, Doug. Enjoyable as ever."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentDougald Weir bt William Hughes (Feb 4) 6-0, 6-2

Player Comments:

  • "It was good to play Will again on a very blustery Sunday morning in Malvern Park. The windy conditions made play difficult and Will struggled to adjust in the first set with it going comfortably in my favour. In the second set, the games got much closer, especially as Will's serve was stronger and he started to find his range. Fortunately I was able to get over the line in the gusty conditions. Thank you for the game Will and I look forward to playing again on a calmer day! "  -- Dougald
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Abdullah Alam (Feb 3) 6-1, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "An early start on a fairly slippery court this morning. It was my second time playing Abdullah and equally as enjoyable as the first. There were several deuce games in the first set so the score could've been closer. In the second, Abdullah really stepped it up and was 3-1 up and very nearly made it 4-1. I was able to edge a close game and that gave me confidence for the rest of the set. Abdullah will undoubtedly continue to improve over time. Thanks for the game."  -- Richard

Player Comments:

  • "It was my 2nd game against Will, who has definitely improved. His game is really shaping up and in the 2nd set was serving well and played some lovely drop shot and forehand winners. Unfortunately we just ran out of time and couldnt finish the 2nd set. This game is to be concluded. "  -- Richard

Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Laurence Chan (Jan 23) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "It's been 18 months since I've played Laurence and it was good to play indoors on a wet, windy evening outside. Although the scoreline suggests otherwise, there were some fantastic rallies and Laurence hit several winners. We had 45 minutes to rally at the end and it's obvious that Laurence is a strong tennis player but would be even better with more consistency during matches. I enjoyed our two hours at Tudor Grange and there was lots of running involved. Good luck for your remaining matches."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt William Hughes (Jan 20) 6-0, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Third time playing Will (including a friendly) and the wind was definitely a factor today at Malvern Park. In the warm up, Will hit some great forehands and showed the improvements he's made to his game. The scoreline of the match is one-sided but doesn't tell the whole story as we had some good rallies and Will made me work hard for many points. Still being new to tennis, there is plenty of potential for Will to continue improving. I look forward to our next game."  -- Richard
Reveal CommentRichard Randle bt Lewis Lydon (Jan 18) 6-1, 6-0

Player Comments:

  • "Third time playing Lewis and each match has been very different. This evening we were lucky that the court wasn't frozen as it had reached -1 when we started. This was a more comfortable win than I expected as Lewis hasn't been playing as many matches recently, but he'll definitely improve as the league progresses as he has some excellent shots. Good luck for the rest of the league and I look forward to returning to Marston Green the next time we play."  -- Richard
