Vertical Tabs

This is how it works:

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Contact details are emailed
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is:

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Don't worry that you won't be good enough - playing matches is the best way to improve, and we use an online questionnaire to assess people's ability so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three sets; if a set reaches 6 games all it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are placed in groups according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Each player attempts to play each of the other player on their group once during the round
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of the group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winner of the group wins a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of groups are promoted to the group above for the next round.

Getting started

New players will need to complete the player questionnaire before they can join a round. Once you’ve signed up, and for returning players you can join any of the upcoming rounds above.

For everything you need to know before you get started see the FAQs and review the Rules and Regulations, which all players agree to adhere to when playing in the leagues.

If there is anything else you need help with get in contact with Nigel, Sally and the team who will be happy to help!

Reveal CommentAdam Battley bt Pierre Becker (Sep 18) 7-5, 6-3

Player Comments:

  • "Pierre is by far the most graceful player I have played. You can see he watches a lot of Gasget. He has a great serve which has an amazing kick. there was a lot of creative play throughout the match. Great long rallies throughout the match but one moment stands out. There was one key point in the second set which stands out, where all the coffee shop viewed lobs, slices, smashes, running off the court with amazement and both players shock hands after it. It was a match where both players had chunks of domination and once the tide turned it was difficult to regain the flow. A real gent which plays this game in a style I could only dream of having. Well done Pierre for a top mornings tennis."  -- Adam
Reveal CommentTadgh Buckley bt Ed Mcmanus (Sep 10) 1-6, 6-4, [10-8]

Player Comments:

  • "An amazing match that had everything from hugely enthralling rallies to Ed's deadly passing shots. Ed stormed into an early lead by commanding the first set with an impermeable service game. The second set was a much tighter affair with both players initially holding their serves then swapping breaks, then eventually Tadgh narrowly secured the second set 6-4. All to play for the final set/tiebreak. There was nothing given away easily in this tiebreak with both players struggling to get a clear lead and it really was tit for tat all the way to the finish where Tadgh eventually pipped Ed to the finish line. "  -- Tadgh

Reveal CommentEd Mcmanus bt Adam Battley (Sep 1) 6-1, 4-6, [10-2]

Player Comments:

  • "This match ended due to poor light and both players agreed to play a tie break up to 7 as a decider. Ed won the tie break 7-2. I was a great match on a nice cool evening which Ed got out of the blocks early and completely whooped Adam in the fist set with fine pin point hitting of the ball. It was won with great ease. Adam had to battle hard in the second set moving Ed around more and making for a tightly contested second set which Adam just scraped by winning set point after trying for 9 times! There was good variety of shots and action around the court and light was getting poor. So we decided on the Russian roulete of a tie break which Ed was able to claim his well earned win. Good luck to the rest of the group, Ed is on top form!!!!

Player Comments:

  • "Always a pleasure to play Andrew. Like our previous encounter, this was a 3 set match - lasting 2 hours. Played on a still, damp evening at Eaton Park it was a mixed bag of tennis match which either of us could have won. Andrew raced to a 5-2 lead in the first set which I managed to claw back to win on a tie break once I started to get some first serves in. Justice prevailed in the second set where Andrew's better tennis and my poor service gave him a 6-2 win despite some close games. The third set was closer the score suggests and it shows that the better tennis doesn't always win through as I scraped the key points. Thanks for the game and the tips Andrew!"  -- Andrew

  • "Great game in pretty hot conditions. Both pairs were fairly new to playing doubles, in fact it was David's first game of doubles ever. After an unlucky run of games in the first set, Tom and Jordan piled the pressure on in the second taking a 3-1 lead before a fightback and a hard fought win for Martin & David."  -- Martin

Player Comments:

  • "This was really hard fought match, Jon and Antonino were certainly set on taking no prisoners. We looked set to get beat easily after losing the first 3 games really quickly. We managed to take some games but in the end they were to strong and won the first set quite comfortably. As the matched continued it was the battle of the servers between Andy and Antonino and the battle of the anchor players Mary and Jon. Lots of really long rallies with plenty of action at the net as well. The final set commenced and was scheduled to be a game of nerves especially with it going to a tie break. In the end Mary and Andy rode their luck better. A great game against some great opponents. Now time for a well earned Pimms!! Cheers!"  -- Mary
