This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "A very tight see-saw game which saw comebacks in both sets from 5-3 down, first by myself then by Ian in the second set. Both sets could have gone either way and contained some strong shot making on a fast court. Thanks for the game Ian. " -- Tom

Reveal CommentRichard Powell bt Ian Mack (Aug 14) 7-5, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Perfect conditions for a game of tennis on a clear Sunday afternoon. The venue was the clay courts at Easton College which was a new experience for Richard. First set could've gone either way with Ian who clawed back from 4-2 down to 5-5 putting the pressure on. A few errors crept in in the second set which made for a quicker end to the game. " -- Richard
Reveal CommentKevin Robinson bt Rosanna Ball (Aug 10) 6-2, 6-2

Reveal CommentBenjamin Gale bt Ian Mack (Aug 10) 6-3, 7-5

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "Lovely evening for a game with very little wind and the sun being in a good direction. My first time on clay and enjoyed the surface.

The match itself was extremely frustrating for both sides which seems to be a common theme in all of our previous matches. I don't think our styles suit each other.

Lots of points thrown away and probably best forgotten about. Let hope we can both play better on Sunday in the Eaton Park tournament. " -- Benjamin

Reveal CommentTim Rayner bt Rosanna Ball (Aug 7) 6-2, 6-2

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "This was a lovely evening for tennis and a fun match to play. Rosanna hit several clean aces past Tim, but this wasn't enough to win the day. Reveal CommentTim Rayner bt Paul Martin (Aug 6) 6-4, 6-2

PLAYER COMMENTS:

Thanks for the game Richard. " -- Kevin
Reveal CommentKevin Robinson bt Ian Mack (Jul 31) 6-0, 6-2

Reveal CommentTom Wadlow bt Benjamin Gale (Jul 31) 6-3, 3-6, 6-1

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "A great see-saw match with numerous games going to deuce throughout. Was fortunate enough to find some decent serving again and make a good start in the third set, which definitely helped after the energetic first two sets. There were some great shots played by both, some frustrating misses and a lot of fun had which was the most important thing. Thanks for the game Ben, definitely keen to play again! " -- Tom
Reveal CommentKevin Robinson bt Benjamin Gale (Jul 29) 6-4, 3-6, 6-2

PLAYER COMMENTS:

  • "What a close and exhausting game!!

Kev is a great player and we had many close games. A few frustrating mis-hits from each side (we won't talk about the smash in the 3rd set...) but a great game. I look forward to playing Kev again.
