It has been a great round, with almost 100 matches played. We do hope you had a great time playing and many thanks as always for your support and all your efforts in arranging matches. It has been great to see so many results coming in, and seeing players improve.
The next round starts soon on Monday November 7 2011 and runs until January 8 2012.

Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday November 4. As usual players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, butoften the runner up too when it has been close).

GROUP ONE
Winner: Olivier Winter
Olivier celebrates his first ever round in the Wimbledon Park league with a victory in the top group! It was well deserved, as he enjoyed good wins over Richard, Ales and Huw, to take the group by a couple of points. Richard finished as runner-up after long three-set wins over Huw and Mandy, while Ales was a further two points back with two wins of his own. This wasn't the busiest of groups, but Olivier is a deserving winner and he is now the man to beat in the next round!

GROUP TWO
Winner: David Phillips
David finishes a strong round with five wins out of five, with good victories over nearest challengers Stephen and Sean. However, it wasn't all plain sailing, as he had to come from a set down before beating Debbie. Stephen and Sean racked up four victories each, with Sean winning their encounter in a deciding set. A special mention to Debbie, who won her final match with Anna - before this, she had taken all four of her matches to three sets, a terrific effort, but was just pipped each time. A highly competitive group with a flurry of three-setters, but David proved unstoppable - he can now look forward to the challenges of group one next time.
GROUP THREE
Winner: Anton Hunte
Another fairly quiet group, but Anton proved dominant, winning all three of his matches to take the group by four points. He beat his three nearest rivals without dropping a set, and is a worthy winner. Elsewhere, Richard beat David in the match of the round, a great three-setter which went all the way to 7-5 in the decider.

GROUP FOUR
Winner: Seb Motte
In an incredibly close finish, Seb takes group four, but just two points separated the top 5! Wins over Rhys, Ian, Nathan and Jenny were enough for him to seal the group, and he wrote in after the match with Jenny:
"Great game with Jenny yesterday. Never ran so much during a tennis match. Jenny definitely knows how to get the ball in all parts of the court! I won 6-4, 6-3 and lost 1kg!"
Jenny sealed second place with a win over Nathan in "another great game", while Rhys was involved in 3 three-setters to finish in third. Ian wrote in after beating Tim in a gruelling three-setter:
"Fantastic match with Tim, we were both hitting winners freely in marathon deuce games. I was lucky to scrape through over three sets!"
A hard fought group, and with so many deciding set matches, there was lots of excitement to be had in this one.

GROUP FIVE
Winner: Cillian Maye
Cillian's blistering start - picking up four wins in a couple of weeks - proved enough to get him over the finish line, and he won a set against Giles in the other (unfinished) match. In the decider for second place, Robert managed to beat Giles in two close sets, and wrote in afterwards:
"A beautiful afternoon. The last time we played, it was a two and a half hour three-setter. Maybe the fact that neither of us fancied a third set played into my hands in the tie-break!"

Giles picked up a couple of wins of his own, while Jo beat Robert in a great three-setter. Overall though, congratulations must go to Cillian on a dominant round.

GROUP SIX
Winner: Stuart Main
Stuart impressed throughout the round, winning all of his matches without dropping a set. However, among these wins were some close-fought games, as he needed to win tie-breaks against both Adam and Jane. Suhail lost to Stuart in their encounter, but won his other four matches to take second place, while Adam picked up a couple of victories in third. He wrote in after playing Jane:
"Really good match. Previous round saw us going 3 sets over 2 separate days, so we were definitely well-matched. It was a beautiful morning, a great day for tennis. After a shaky start for both of us, with three straight breaks of serve, things started to settle down. I seemed to have a slight edge on the day and was able to win when it mattered most. Jane had some strong serves, but I was able to close the match out in 2 sets this time. Phew!"
Elsewhere, Ryszard won two tie-break sets against Mugove, and this summed up the close nature of the group.

GROUP SEVEN
Winner: Russell Jacobs
Russell won all three of his matches to take group seven, and he is a worthy group winner. Brendan won a couple of matches to take second place, though he needed three sets to get past Sean in an epic encounter. The opening set tie-break went all the way to 13-11, and it was a great effort by both players. This was a fairly quiet group compared to some others, but that should take nothing away from Russell's round.

GROUP EIGHT
Winner: Douglas McNish
Douglas proved too strong for group eight, winning all of his matches in the round. It wasn't easy, with competitive games against Kate and Roxana, as well as a great three-setter with Mary. Isabel finished as runner-up after three sets with Kate, while Roxana beat both of these two (again in three sets!). Mary wrote in after coming from a set down to beat Judith:
"It was a close match and at one point we were stuck on deuce at least a dozen times. We had to play the third set a few days late as we ran out of time, but we both enjoyed it."
A really evenly matched group, with 6 of the 13 matches going to a deciding set!

GROUP NINE
Winner: Jacqui Farago
Jacqui won group nine after prevailing in all four of her matches, though she needed to come from a set down to beat Ali in the group opener. After that it got more comfortable, and she is a deserving winner. Juliet recorded some good wins of her own, while Ali finished in third place.
Well played all! The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time.
