It has been a busy round, with 55% of all possible matches played, and lots of incredibly close groups to keep things exciting!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court. If you can help us to grow the league we would be very grateful - the more players, the better the spread of players and in theory at least, the better balanced the matches are.
The next round starts soon on Monday November 7 and runs until January 8.
Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday November 4. As usual players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, butoften the runner up too when it has been close).

GROUP ONE
Winner: Gareth Isaac
Gareth makes it three Westway titles in a row, as he flawlessly defended his crown in round 9. He won all 5 of his matches, including a gruelling three-setter with Nik. Ric claimed the runner up spot with three wins of his own, while Nik and Yulia both picked up a couple of victories. Elsewhere, Marcus won an epic three-setter with Daniel, while Paul won his only match of the round. Every single player managed to record at least one win, which shows how competitive and evenly matched the group was. Congratulations to Gareth once again, he truly is the man to beat at Westway!

GROUP TWO
Winner: Paris Pennesi
Paris takes group two with three wins out of three, including hard-fought victories over nearest challengers Raleigh and Robert. Raleigh took second place with a couple of wins of his own. Overall, a fairly quiet group in comparison to others, but that takes nothing away from Paris, who had a fine round.

GROUP THREE
Winner: Stephen Carter
Stephen takes group three by a whisker, finishing just a point ahead of Manfredi. He won all 5 of his completed matches, including a win over Edward:
"We resumed tonight for the continuation of our match. Very intense second set. The last game on my serve was a classic, with neither of us willing to give it up. I squandered 3 match points, and Edward 3 break points, before I put an ace wide in the backhand court to (thankfully) finish it."
Manfredi had a similarly enjoyable match with Edward, describing it as "great fun!" However, the real story came when Stephen and Manfredi met. It remains unfinished with Manfredi leading by a set, and ultimately that proves crucial. Having played a match more, Stephen wins the group, but both players remain unbeaten. Cristian recorded some good victories to take third place, while Edward beat Nyeche in two good sets. Congratulations to Stephen, but he and Manfredi were so evenly matched throughout that both deserve our praise!

GROUP FOUR
Winner: Julian Dixon
Julian was fantastic throughout the round, notching 6 wins from 6, and he reported on his win over Natasha:
"The game was very close, with Natasha breaking first in both sets only for me to come back and eventually win after some extremely long rallies. Natasha's excellent technique was evident on the clay court with huge amounts of top spin making the match quite technical."
Natasha managed to finish as runner up, a point ahead of Christian, who won their encounter in three excellent sets. Another busy group, well done to Julian for a dominant promotion-earning display.

GROUP FIVE
Winner: Clive Bowden
Clive finishes with a 100% record, and he takes group five. He had to work very hard against Nigel, dropping the first set before fighting back to win, and he had a real scare against Andrew - locked at one set all, Andrew was leading 3-1 in the final set, but the match remains unfinished. Andrew finishes a couple of points behind runner up Nigel, and wrote in after a tight win over Kate:
"Kate and I managed to complete our unfinished game from weeks ago. Kate came in to the game 5-3 up and serving for the set, which she took 6-3. Things turned in the second set and I managed to take it 6-1, though the score doesn't fully reflect the closeness of the set - most games went to deuce. I won the decider 6-3."
Some good matches throughout the group, and Clive is a worthy winner. Nigel adds:
"When I decided to play this round I thought I'd give myself a reasonably gentle ride and join the lowest group. But I was blown over by the standard of play. Good matches from everyone including a really tough first set and a bit against Marion and epics against Andrew and the very well deserved winner, Clive."
The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time. BTM Qualifying matches will be reported to the LTA in time for the autumn ratings run (see our notes on this here)
