Southwark City Tennis League: Singles Round 6

Round 6 
Monday 1st August to Sunday 25th September 2011 

So another round comes to an end, after some great tennis and hard fought battles.
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
 
GROUP ONE
Winner: James Lush
James makes it a hat trick but in a quiet round - 2 wins was enough to seal it, and he did so without dropping a set. Roman finished runner-up after beating Daniel, but the early withdrawal seemed to hit this group hard and it never really got going. Nevertheless, well done to James on yet another group win - can he be stopped next time?

 

GROUP TWO
Winner: Bramwell Simiyu
Real drama at the top of group two, with a three-way tie between Bramwell, James and Ben! Up until the final week, it looked for all the world as if James would take the group after beating Isebail and Wendy (the latter in three great sets). However, a late surge from Bramwell put him at the top after 2 wins of his own. Although James withdrew, Bramwell would have taken the group anyway as he didn't drop a set in his matches. Ben also finished on 4 points after some close wins, but Bramwell beat him in what proved to be the crucial group decider.  A really good end to the group, and we hope to see you all back next time.
  
GROUP THREE
Winner: Emily GleesonAnother great battle in group three, with Emily and Jo really thrashing it out for the group title. In the end, Emily edged it - she won all 3 matches, and fittingly had to go to three sets with Jo in the deciding match. She reported on this win:
"Another excellent epic game with Jo - we like to think we're both improving at the same rate!"
Again this group was hit by an early withdrawal, but there were still a fair number of matches played. Well done Emily!
