We hope you have enjoyed the Christmas break and have a fantastic New Year! But before we celebrate the start of 2012, a look back to 2011 - it is time to report the results of Round 7 of the Southwark City Tennis League which finished on Boxing day.
It has been a good round despite the oncoming cold, with 76% of all matches played and some competitive groups to keep things exciting!

Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.

The next round starts on Monday January 23 and runs until March 18.

Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday January 20. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close).

GROUP ONE
Winner: James Lush
It's now four group wins in a row for James, and he continued this astonishing run by coming out victorious in all three of his matches. In the end, it all came down to his showdown with Ben, and the defending champion was in real trouble. Ben took the first set, but James fought back to preserve his record, winning the match in three sets to take the crown. Ben finishes in second after a great start, winning a tough match against Kunal and then chalking up a victory over Bramwell. Despite the small size of the group, it was very busy, with all but one match being completed. We hope to welcome you all back next time, can anyone stop James in Southwark?

GROUP TWO

Winner: Daniel Morris

After winning all four of his matches, Daniel takes group two, and he did so without dropping a set. His toughest test probably came in his final match, where he needed a tie-break to edge past Sidd, in a hard-fought match:

"It was a keenly contested game between Sidd and I. Sidd brought so much energy to the game despite playing in almost sub-zero weather condition. He pushed me to the limits and made me really dig deep to get the victory. Well done Sidd! You had some amazing winners and should have won overall, but you gave me the lifeline when you had me by the scruff."

Daniel also had a really close game with Matthew, who ended the round as the nearest challenger at the top. He won three of his four matches, while Isebail pipped Sidd to third place. This was despite Sidd winning their encounter, a tremendous match which went all the way to 7-5 in the third set. Ben won his only match of the round, and will feel he could have mounted a challenge had he started a bit earlier. Nevertheless, Daniel deserves the plaudits, and he can now look forward to life in the top group!

The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time.
