GROUP ONE
Winner: Kevin Byrne
In what was a really close group, Kevin emerges as the winner after an impressive record of 3 wins from 3, without dropping a set. He is a very worthy winner, as his victories came over his nearest challengers Jackie, Scott and Helen. This trio were involved in a fantastic sequence of matches, which all went to three sets - Scott beating Jackie (in a deciding set tie-break), Jackie beating Helen, and Helen beating Scott! Helen wrote to us after that win:
"The score is as follows - 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 - tightly fought all the way! Great fun in a perfect summer's evening for tennis."
Elsewhere in the group, Nii won his only match of the round, which suggests there was more to come from him. Unfortunately, David had an ankle injury and couldn't play; Tony had hoped to get a match in but was unable to, and we never heard from Zora! On the plus side, every player who completed a match was a winner in at least one of them! This speaks volumes for the competitiveness of the group, and hopefully the next round will be even busier. Well done again to Kevin on a deserved win.
