The Portsmouth Tennis League: Singles Round 1  
The round runs from Monday 11th July to Sunday 4th Sept 2011

It has been a great start to life for the league, with a very tight group, lots of close matches to keep things exciting and some great tennis!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
GROUP ONE
Winner: Martin Jewell
A thrilling round in the inaugural Portsmouth league comes to an end with an incredibly close finish at the top. Martin is the first ever champion with an excellent display of 6 wins from 6 matches, and he takes the group by the smallest of margins from Jeff. There was a 1 point gap between them, as crucially Martin won their encounter in a thrilling three-setter. There were solid performances all round with Frederic, Lewis and Ashley all recording multiple wins, with Lewis beating Frederic in probably the match of the round - 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. Rod summed up the general mood of the round when he wrote in after picking up a win:
"Thanks for organising the league. The weather wasn't great this summer but we managed to have fun and play some competitive games against people we didn't know, a great initiative."
Thanks to everyone for your wonderful efforts - 25 of a possible 28 matches were played, which is almost 90%! - and well done once again to Martin on a fantastic round, hope to see you all back next time!

The mid point for bonus points and a FREE tube of tennis balls is Sunday 7th August 2011.
