It has been a busy round, particularly for this time of
year, and it has made for some really exciting groups!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever,
very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your
efforts on court.
The next round starts on Monday March 26 and runs until May
20.
Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you
haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday March 23. As usual, players
who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often
the runner up too when it has been close).

And now, on to the groups...
GROUP ONE Winner: Jeff Travis Defending champion Jeff left it late to retain his crown,
but in the end he did so in style. Tom led by a couple of points going into the
final 10 days, but two impressive wins for Jeff were enough to turn this round,
and he finished the round with 3 wins out of 3. It was sealed with a win over
Frederic, and Jeff wrote in afterwards: "A really close and exciting second set!"
It is tough on Tom, who also ended the round with a 100%
record, but he was unable to add to his two early wins. Frederic took third
place with a hard-fought win over Ashley, but we must finish by congratulating
Jeff again - 2 groups wins on the trot, he's quickly emerged as the man to beat
in Portsmouth! | GROUP TWO Winner: Martin Finch Martin was very impressive throughout, ending the round with four wins out of four. However, he had to work incredibly hard for these wins, as he gained a reputation as something of a slow starter! He was a set down in three of his four encounters, but showed terrific fight to take all these matches in three-set thrillers. He wrote in after the most recent of these, against second placed Peter: "Played on a lovely evening with the weather perfect for a hard fought match."
Peter won his other three matches in a strong display, while Lewis notched up a couple of victories. Great stuff from Martin, who showed real character in winning his matches, and he will be a worthy contender in group one next time. The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time.
