Midway for bonus points and a FREE tube of tennis balls, Sunday 24th July 2011
GROUP ONE
Winner: Mark Michael
It couldn't have been closer at the top of group one, with Mark Michael and defending champion Sam each finishing the round on 8 points. However, by virtue of his win in their encounter, Mark wrestles the title away from Sam with the smallest of margins. It is a well deserved win for Mark, who didn't drop a set in his 3 matches, but Sam pushed him all the way with 3 impressive wins of his own. Mark Young also had a good round after beating Mike and Robert, while Yulia won her only match of the round. Although there were quite a few potential matches that didn't take place in the group, there was still enough drama to keep things exciting. Well done Mark on a great victory, hopefully the next round will be just as competitive!
GROUP TWO
Winner: Richard Fernandes
In a brilliantly active group, two players managed to complete all their matches - no small feat considering the group had eight players. Richard Fernandes was one of those, and he takes the group win with a fantastic record of 5 wins from 7 matches. This included a three-set win over Geraint (the other player to post a full round of matches) and a close victory over Richard Combs. In second place, and just a single point behind the winner is Graeme, who unfortunately couldn't get a final match scheduled. He had a great round, winning all 6 of his matches, including wins over Richard and third-placed Sean, and he ends his impressive performance with the loss of just one set. In virtually any other round this would have been enough to take the group, but this round was so busy that Graeme has just been pipped on this occasion! Sean also performed superbly throughout, winning 5 of 6 matches, including a three-set victory over Richard. Elsewhere, Matt, Geraint and Richard Combs all won at least 2 matches, indicating a really strong group throughout. Well done again to Richard, and thank you to all the players for a tremendous effort.
GROUP THREE
Winner: Stephen Lyons
Another busy group which is taken by Stephen, after a dominant display - he won all 6 of his matches, although he was taken to three sets by Lance and James. Cristian was not far behind at all, winning 4 of his 5 matches, one of them being an excellent three-setter with Rupert. This was such a competitive group, with every player being involved in at least one three-set match, and all scored a healthy total of points by the end of the round. We hope to see you all back for the next round, but we'll give the final word to Rupert:
"After 16 years out of the game it has been fantastic to dust off the racket (which looks rather out of date now!) and get back on the court. Thanks very much for helping me get back into the game!"

GROUP FOUR
Winner: Eugene Constable
A slightly smaller group than the others, but Eugene took full advantage and won all 4 of his matches to finish top of the group. This included a good win over Kris, who finished 2nd after winning his other 2 matches. Maria and Thomas also recorded victories, but Eugene was the star of this group, and he takes a deserved win!
