AThe cold weather and Christmas period seemed to affect this round, which was much quieter than usual. However, there were some excellent matches played and tight finishes in the groups!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court - and even if this round was a little disappointing we very much hope you will stick with it. There are now over 50 local leagues up and down the country and players like you are making a real difference to grass roots tennis in the UK.
The next round starts on Monday February 13 and runs until April 8.
Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday February 10. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close).

And now, on to the groups...
GROUP ONE
Winner: Matt Bass
This group was all about the Matts, and in the end Bass pipped Timms by just a single point to take the crown. Despite losing in their encounter, Bass picked up a set in a marathon match, and that proved crucial in the final outcome. Both players had strong rounds, and the eventual winner wrote in after his most recent win, against Dean:
"A match of two ends on a very windy morning. One end was for attacking with the wind the other for scrambling against it! I cruised through the first set 6-1; the second was well contested with Dean having two break points to go up 3-1. I was able to save them and reeled off the final four games as the winners began to flow."
The top two dominated the group, with no other players managing to get their rounds going, but the next round should be busier. Well done to Matt on a fine display.
