And so we have arrived... it's 2012, and the year that promises so much sporting excitement has begun the way it means to go on. Well done everyone for battling through the distractions of the holidays, not to mention the odd gale,  to bring Round 16 to a close!

Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches (which we know can be a challenge on thses busy courts) and for your efforts on court. And perhaps we don't thank you enough... With your help we are beginning make real progress on our mission to make friendly, competitive tennis available on local courts nationwide. Thanks in no small way to the inspiration of our Meadows players, we now have over fifty leagues up and down the country and many more planned for 2012. We are particularly grateful for the continued support of the Meadows Tennis Club (more info here) and the city's tennis development officer, Alex Harkins.

The next round starts on Monday January 30 and runs until March 5.

Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday January 27. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close).

GROUP ONE
Winner: Jackson Pauls
The top group at Meadows always guarantees excitement and close matches, and this round was no exception. Jackson is always there or thereabouts, and this time he managed to notch four wins from five to get his first group victory since round 12! He beat Clive in three sets and defending champ Isabella in a really impressive performance. The only blot on Jackson's round was a three-set defeat to Guillaume, but this takes none of the shine off a fine display. Clive took second spot with wins over Isabella and Guillaume (in three sets), while Isabella beat Guillaume in probably the match of the round - yet another three-setter, but this one contained two tie-breaks as well. A tremendous round as usual, and congratulations to Jackson for rounding off the year in style.

"Excellent game played on a damp court, though weather held up well. Could even have done with sunglasses in the third set! Nice long rallies, plenty of sliding around the court. Great way to spend 2 hours on a Tuesday morning."
