You battled through the rain and refused to be outshone by Wimbledon and now you garner your reward - well at least the two luck winners do! Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court. The next round starts on Monday August 6 and runs until September 30. Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday August 3. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close). You can pay by paypal here And just before we go to our winners, the latest message from our guide to tennis rules and etiquette... And now, on to the groups... GROUP ONE Winner: Paul Fitzpatrick Paul was flawless throughout, winning all five of his matches and finishing four points clear of second place. He capped off his round with a fine win over Ross: "Early start and good match with Ross almost making big comeback in the 2nd set"
A late flurry from Matt saw him snatch second place from Rory, with wins over Ross and Daniel (the latter in three sets) doing the trick. Rory also had three wins to his name, and finished in third. Well done again to Paul for a great round. | GROUP TWO Winner: Gintaras Guzelis Sadly this group never really got going, with just the three matches completed. However, it made for an exciting conclusion at the top, with Gintaras, Howard and Peter all locked on a win and 2 points each. To separate the players, first we go to the head-to-head records, and Howard beat Peter in the first match of the round. However, as Gintaras and Howard didn't play each other, the only way to decide the winner is to go to sets and games conceded. Neither player dropped a set, but Gintaras lost only 6 games in his victory against Gavin, while Howard conceded 7 games when he beat Peter. Therefore, Gintaras claims the top spot and the prizes! The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time. |
