It has been a great round despite the oncoming cold, with 79% of matches played and some very competitive groups to keep things exciting!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
The next round starts on Monday January 23 and runs until March 18.
Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Friday January 20. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close). If you can help spread the word we would be enormously grateful...
The Glasgow Tennis League is part of a genuinely grass roots movement to provide more opportunities to play friendly competitive tennis on local courts. Local Tennis Leagues is run by people like you, for you. We are not subsidised or sponsored - instead we rely entirely on the passion of our players and your commitment to the sport.
As you know, the benefits of playing a regular sport like tennis are enormous and we are hoping 2012 will be a key year for sharing our passion for tennis!

And now, on to the groups and the winners!
GROUP ONE
Winner: Martin Long
Martin is now a four-time champion in Glasgow, regaining the crown he lost last time with a superb round. He won all 5 of his matches, with his toughest test coming in the opening match - having lost the first set against Roman, he fought back to take the contest in three. Roman pushed him hard in the round overall too, as did Dragan, with both players finishing just a couple of points behind. Dragan won his first four matches, but was unable to get the better of Martin in the decider. Even so, he had some excellent matches, including a three-set win over Rod:
"Rod is a very good player, Martin is absolutely right about that... game was interesting, maybe not so nice to watch due to unforced errors on both sides, but enjoyable."
Roman recorded three wins, and his only defeats came in deciding set matches against the top two, which suggests he will be a real contender in the next round. It should be an exciting one, and it will be interesting to see if anyone can stop Martin winning his fifth title in six attempts!
