The Gladstone Park Tennis League: Singles Round 5
The round runs from Monday 27th June to Sunday 21st August 2011
It has been a great round, with lots of close matches and three-setters to keep things exciting!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are as ever very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
GROUP ONE
Winner: Chris Moore
A wonderful round ends with Chris on top of group one - he won all 4 of his matches. The decisive victory was against second-placed Annette, and fittingly it was a classic three-setter. Annette won her other 3 matches, and beat third-placed Gamy in another great match which went the distance. Good matches and close scores all round, but Chris is a worthy winner, and he showed great resilience to win his matches - 3 of his 4 went to a third set, and he won against Gamy with a tie-break in the third set! Well done to everyone for a really close and exciting group.
GROUP TWO
Winner: Ali Qassim
Ali was dominant in group two, winning all 3 of his matches - three-quarters of all the matches played in the group! Although he didn't drop a set, he did let us know that his win over Declan was "closer than the score suggests". Jane won the other match in the group to take second, but the small size of the group coupled with the early withdrawal reduced the number of possible matches. Congratulations to Ali and the next round will almost certainly be bigger and busier!
GROUP THREE
Winner: Coll Kretz
Coll had a very impressive round and takes the win after being victorious in all 3 matches. Jake finishes in 2nd, a point behind while Peter won a couple of matches. Like the other groups, there was a withdrawal and there weren't as many matches played as there could have been. Nonetheless Coll took full advantage of his matches and is a very deserving winner.
