We offer great prices on tennis balls. And league members get extra savings!

This is how it works

  • Players are organised into groups of up to 8 people of a similar standard
  • Players arrange their own matches
  • It is a mixed sex, singles league, so men and women play each other
  • You can play on any court that suits both players

The league is

  • For everybody!
  • We welcome beginners as well as advanced players.
  • Players are grouped by ability, so you play only people of a roughly similar level
  • Affiliated to the LTA
  • For adults aged 18 years and above

Key points

  • Matches are best of three tie break sets; if a set reaches 6 games all, it is decided by a tiebreak
  • The evening before the round starts you will receive an email with all the contact details of the players in your group
  • Players are grouped according to past performance in the league and, for new players, their Player Standard Questionnaire
  • Everyone in the group plays each other once during the round
  • You get one point for each set you win
  • If you complete three matches before the midpoint of a round you receive 2 bonus points and a bonus prize (either a pair of Local Tennis Leagues dampeners, or a tube of tennis balls).
  • The winner of each group is the player with the most points at the end of the round
  • The winners get a certificate and tennis prizes
  • Where possible, winners of the groups (and sometimes the top two) are promoted for the next round; those who come bottom (and sometimes the bottom two) are demoted

This has been an extremely exciting way to get into tennis. 5 months I've been playing now and I can't get enough of it. I learn so much from all the different opponents. Thanks to all of you

Dwayne Wint

A guy I met in the park the other day said 'the real tennis players still play in winter'. Made me happy. Being so late to this awesome sport. I still can't get enough of it. Friends thought it was a phase but I still have the fire woooohoooo!!

Dwayne Wint

As always the round was very enjoyable. I played some old competitors and met some new. Local Tennis Leagues is a wonderful way of meeting new people to play tennis with. I feel my game is improving in every department as I get to play so many players with different styles and strengths

Amer Jahangir

Thanks so much for running the leagues. I've had a great time playing in them in the past 4 years or so

Stuart Purchase

Many thanks for organising the Broomfield and Bush Hill Parks Tennis League. Enjoyed it very much when I played

Broomfield Park

I'm enjoying the format and I have met some really lovely people.  The extra 2 points for playing half your matches by the half-way point is a great idea.  Thanks for all the hard work in organising the league. It is very much appreciated.

Nick Lauder

I started playing in the league in 2008/09 and immediately realised what a fantastic concept this is. I played tennis, met new people, made friends - some of which I have continued playing with even outside of the league. Registration and admin element is simple, efficient and extremely well run by Nigel and Sally. This round again was a pleasure - as always

A quick note to acknowledge that the way you run the leagues is great and at the same time affordable, for that a big thank you!

Alex Papas

It's been a great experience participating in these leagues in the last two years; I feel  part of a League Family. But sadly it might be my last round as I'll be moving abroad.

Saul Bascopé

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks again for the excellent organisation of the league, I look forward to the next round

Andy Lynch

This is my last time in the league as I am going back to my country. I enjoyed the league a lot. Thank you Sally Kinnes and Nigel Billen for doing such a great job and thank to all the guys that played with me, you are all awesome. Thanks,

Aaron Wangsa

At the end of the match we both reflected on what a fantastic league system you guys have going, I truly hope it runs at least as long as I am able to chase the ball :) Thank you

Dimitri B

Thank you for the job you are doing. This season was very short for me as I enjoyed it a lot. I think I played the my best tennis in ages, but curiously could not even get a win. Looking forward for the next season! Thank you to make it possible again

Aaron Wangsa

Thank you for organising us.  It has been a lot of fun

Alicja Mulligan

This league has been a very enjoyable return to tennis.  All my opponents have been great people to play and it's amazing how many different styles of tennis you come up against.  And of course thanks to Local Tennis Leagues for the work you put in

Kevin Lynch

Just wanted to say thank you for the tennis balls which I received today. It is the first time I've played  in the league and I am enjoying it.  Everyone I've met with so far has been very friendly and I hope to meet up and play more with some of them. Thanks again

Triss Frangou

I believe that Local Tennis League is a novel and wonderful concept. I have found a lot of tennis partners and friends through this league. What I like the most, is the luxury and independence of playing in my own time

Amer Jahangir

Thanks for all your support and organisation, well worth the £12!

Simon Buller

Congratulations on arranging another wonderful round. It is a pleasure playing in the league.  I really enjoy it

Amer Jahangir

Thanks for all your brilliant work. My tennis has improved a great deal,

Simon Buller

I am glad I found this league and would like to join again. Thank you again and I appreciate your efforts in putting together and maintaining the local tennis leagues,

Tose Page

Thanks Nigel & Sally. Think this tennis league is great!

Ross York

Thank you for organising this league. As someone who has just moved into the area, it gave me an opportunity to get out, play some tennis and meet new people

I had a lovely time playing in round one. And, I would definitely play in round two. Count me in!

I've really really enjoyed taking part in the first round, meeting a great bunch of tennis players who I look forward to playing again

I have managed half of my games and lost them all!!  I'm on a roll.  Great little league though everyone's so friendly and supportive

''I thank you for all your efforts & organization :).  I am looking forward to the next league & hoping for sunshine :) ''

Phil Coulter

Great game. Enjoying my tennis as always :)

Phil Coulter

''Enjoyed playing all the people in the previous round, really lovely afternoons out''

"I've really enjoyed playing in the Bush Hill Park league. I had some smashing games and met some super people"

"It has been a really enjoyable experience. I would like to sign up again please,"

"Many thanks for organising this league and I had a great time, especially meeting so many nice people"

"I have really enjoyed playing in the league this round and have just paid to play in the 2nd round!"

"Loved playing, it was great fun, and met some nice people"

"Just to say thank you for organising the league. It's been so enjoyable for a novice like me to face all these people I'd never have got a chance to play. I'll definitely sign up for the second round."

"It has been very enjoyable and looking forward to the next one!"

Vasos Jacovou

"I enjoyed playing competitive tennis singles matches against good people at Arnos Park, a venue
where I played in excess of 100 football matches. Thanks again to everybody involved in making Local Tennis Leagues the best run sporting
organisation I am involved with, or aware of,"

  • "A really enjoyable tennis match with Dwayne on a nice day. He unfortunately was suffering from a back injury in the third set, but fought hard till the end!" -- Dominic
Reveal CommentDwayne Wint bt Kim Lee (Sep 22) 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)

  • "Such a pleasure playing Dwayne, his personality made the night really enjoyable and fun. I was up 2-1 in the 1st, he played consistently to lead 4-2, placing balls right on the baseline.

Dwayne led all the way through the 2nd, his serves giving him cheap points as I wasn't able to conjure good returns, although a couple of serves I employed Federer's SABR tactic to apply some pressure which was quite successful, as it forced him to play lobs - a challenge when I'm 6ft 3 tall!

I fought hard at 2-5 down, held serve at 3-5 and kept focusing on each point. I managed to claw back to 4-5, motivating myself with a couple of C'mons!!!. Dwayne was still playing excellent shots, but now I hit much deeper shots and was more relaxed. I also read his shots well and my net coverage earned me the game to level at 5-5, although I was extremely fortunate to save MP as Dwayne's 'winner' hit the net. A quick service hold and it's 6-5. And at this point, the floodlights went out! What drama!

After a 20 min wait, I still had the momentum and served well enough to level at 6-6. A really close 2nd set, Dwayne thoroughly deserve to win it. I really look forward to playing him again soon." -- Kim

Reveal CommentTose Page bt Kim Lee (Sep 20) 6-1, 6-0

  • "Nice to meet Kim. He has some nice natural spin on his serve. Refreshig to see someone who likes to come into the net too. " -- Tose
Reveal CommentHuan Nguyen bt Dwayne Wint (Sep 19) 3-6, 6-4, 6-3

  • "Close games between us as always. Such a friendly but competitive opponent in Dwayne. Looking forward to playing him again! " -- Huan
Reveal CommentTose Page bt Huan Nguyen (Sep 6) 6-2, 6-4

  • "Very nice to play Huan again who has a really good attitude on court. He made it difficult by running everything down, but I was thankfully fairly consistent in the match." -- Tose
Reveal CommentHuan Nguyen bt Kim Lee (Sep 2) 6-0, 6-0

  • "There was a bit of a wait as both Arnos and Broomfield parks' courts were unavailable, fortunately we were able to play at Waterfall Tennis Club (just a stone throw away from Arnos park). It was great playing with Huan, he had fantastic ball placement and great serves - there was not a lot I could do to challenge him. I'll shall try harder next time! Many thanks to Bob, WTC Tennis Captain for providing us with a tin of new balls." -- Kim
Reveal CommentHuan Nguyen bt Marcin Pajek (Sep 1) 0-6, 6-3, 6-0

  • "Wet and slippery throughout the match which lasted over two days. We both did not like the scoreline but it just reflects how well each of us adapted to the wet condition each day." -- Huan
Reveal CommentTose Page bt Dwayne Wint (Aug 29) 6-2, 7-5

  • "A fun match and great to meet Dwayne who almost staged a comeback at the end. Luckily I managed to pick up my game just enough to get the second set." -- Tose
Dominic Burchnall bt Kim Lee (Aug 23) 6-3, 6-2
Reveal CommentTose Page bt Dominic Burchnall (Aug 22) 7-6 (7-1), 7-5

  • "Really good workout on a really hot day. Evidently a close match and a number of good rallies with both of us running down a lot of balls. Dominic came back from 5-0 down in the second set to win 5 games in a row before I took the last 2. How we would have coped with another set, I don't know :) " -- Tose

  • "Lots of distraction as we played in Enfield Town Park at the same time as the Country Fair - blaring announcers, dozens of dogs showing off in the show, crowds everywhere. Jonathan and I were level through the first set - 3-all; 4-all;5-all then then almost inevitable tie-break. Steady shotmaking and lots of running down backspun balls. We had to halt at one set all but looking forward to a decider." -- Sean
Reveal CommentTim Davis v Mick Obrien (Sep 12) 4-6, 3-3 TBC

  • "Good match but ran out of time" -- Mick
Reveal CommentMick Obrien bt Jonathan Jones (Sep 5) 6-2, 6-4

  • "A pretty evenly matched game. Sensed we weren't far away from an epic encounter but maybe Jon's 'extra glass of wine' the night before tilted the balance in my favour!" -- Mick
Reveal CommentMick Obrien bt Sean Murphy (Sep 2) 6-3, 6-1

  • "Not great conditions - showers, poorly marked courts with lots of stray balls from other courts - probably contributed to the game not really finding any great rhythm. Still some good and very long rallies along the way though...." -- Mick
Reveal CommentRobin Datta bt Jonathan Jones (Aug 29) 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6)

  • "A very long and enjoyable match. It ebbed and flowed as Jonathan fought back after the first set to get to match point at 5 - 3 in the third set. I managed to get it back to a tiebreak which either of us could have won. Fortunately it went my way. Good fun and a very nice chap to play." -- Robin
Reveal CommentMick Obrien bt Robin Datta (Aug 20) 6-4, 6-2

  • "Scoreline doesn't reflect the closeness of the game in any way. A gruelling encounter in very humid conditions but very enjoyable all the same. There can be few matches where so many shots have been played in just 18 games of tennis...!" -- Mick

Chris Ward bt Lucy Katsantonis (Sep 29) provisional walkover
Reveal CommentChris Ward bt Andrew Lynch (Sep 27) 6-4, 6-3

  • "The effects of Andrew's powerful, swinging serves, exacerbated by a gusty wind, caused me no end of trouble in the first set. I managed to get just enough of them back to claw my way back into the first set and then, with the aid of a helpful net cord, to inch ahead. In the second set, neither of us served with great distinction, but, amid a flurry of breaks,I was able to manage the comfortably held game that proved enough to get me home. Enjoyable match in the late September sun." -- Chris

  • "Neither player wanter the third set after a long first set finished in a tiebreak and the second was far from straightforward. But a third set there was and I just managed to squeak past Vasos despite a serious lack of fitness on my part, and a couple of very long rallies toward the end of the set nearly did for us both! A gruelling but enjoyable start to the group." -- Andrew
Reveal CommentChris Ward bt Alicja Mulligan (Aug 16) 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1

  • "Even closer than our previous match. Alicja put together an impressive run from 2-4 in the first to 4-1 in the second. I belatedly mustered effective resistance, which led to a very tense end to the second. It was only once I had squeezed through that that Alicia's late-night dinner party began to take its toll on her energy levels, while I was left to drag weary limbs home , victorious but with the DIY scheduled for the rest of the day looking increasingly unappealing." -- Chris
