Round Twelve
Monday 1st August to Sunday 25th September 2011
So another round comes to an end, after some great matches and hard fought battles.
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
GROUP ONE
Winner: Graham Fortune
Graham makes it a hat trick, with three consecutive titles after this round, recording victories in 3 of his 4 matches. He beat Javier, Lito and Chris without dropping a set, although he slipped up against Damien, who beat him in two excellent sets. Lito finished in second place after picking up a couple of wins, while Chris and Damien were slightly further back. Damien may feel he could have mounted a real challenge at the top had he played more games, but for now that will have to wait until the next round. Can he, or anyone else stop Graham from making it four in a row?

GROUP TWO
Winner: Josh Whitworth
With no other way to separate the top two in group two, we have to get the calculator out. Josh and Marc each won 2 out of 2, but as they did not play each other, it comes down to number of games conceded. Josh lost just 4 games in total, while Marc conceded 6, so it is Josh who takes the group win! Hopefully both players will be spurred on by this to return next time. Elsewhere, Kaleem and Spencer had the match of the round, a great three setter which was just edged by Kaleem.
GROUP THREE
Winner: Luke GerzinaAnother tie in group three, with Luke and Anton both finishing on 8 points. However,there is no doubt about the winner this time, with Luke deservedly taking the group by virtue of his win over Anton in their encounter - Luke edging two really hard-fought sets. In fact, Luke won all 4 of his matches, though this included epic three-setters with Aimee and Michael, the latter finishing on a third set tie-break! Anton picked up his wins slightly more comfortably, but it all came down to their decider, and it was Luke who prevailed.
GROUP FOUR
Winner: Neil SharlandYet another group with a tie at the top, and again it has to go down to games conceded to decide it! Neil and James each won their only match, but Neil lost 7 games as opposed to James' 9 - therefore Neil is the group winner. The group as a whole struggled to get going, with only 2 matches completed (though a real classic was going on between Matthew and Eddie - it was locked at 6-7, 7-6, 3-1 but sadly remains unfinished). A measure of revenge for Neil, who lost out in three sets to James last time, but we're sure he would have preferred to win the group through more convincing means!
GROUP FIVE
Winner: Alfie WongNo ambiguity in group five, in which Alfie produced a blistering display to win all 5 of his matches without dropping a set. Jo performed well to take second place, picking up a couple of wins and a set in an unfinished match with Olivier, while Robert and Nick also recorded wins. All the plaudits must go to Alfie though, and it will be interesting to see whether he can maintain this momentum in a higher group next time.
GROUP SIX
Winner: Tom MeesTom takes group six with a great record of 5 wins from 5, managing to beat every player in the group without losing a set, and he finishes 4 points ahead of Richard. The runner-up was involved in some cracking matches, not least in his battle with James - he lost the first set, before coming back to take the decider 8-6! Nik and Colin also picked up wins, but the star of the show was Tom. Promotion now beckons in the next round!
GROUP SEVEN
Winner: Monash KesslerYet another group with no clear winner, but Monash takes it after some incredible matches - winning in three sets against Hannah, and being unlucky to lose in three against Martyn and Puneet! However, the sets won in these matches proved crucial, giving a one point lead over Hannah at the end of the round. Hannah put up a late charge, winning 2 in a week, but it was not enough, and it is Monash who takes the spoils.
GROUP EIGHT
Winner: Gareth ThomasGareth was impressive throughout the round, and wins the group by 5 points after not dropping a set. Behind him, three players were locked on 5 points - Ashe, Jayne and Joanna, and the latter two had a great match. Jayne reported on it:
"I played Joanna and won 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. The match was played across two days. It started with a very close set which I won, and we had to finish for the day with Joanna in the lead in the second set. The match recommenced a month later with Joanna quickly claiming the first set before I reversed fortunes and took the second."
This was not the only three setter in the group - Joanna had earlier beaten Emily 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while the pick was probably Ashe's win over Jayne - it ended in a third set tie-break! Well done again to Gareth on a fine round, he had a very impressive record in a really competitive group.
