Round 6 of the combined Bush Hill and Broomfield Parks Tennis League
The round runs from Monday 11th July to Sunday 4th Sept 2011.

 

It has been a great round! Seventy eight percent of all possible matches were played which is brilliant, and there has been some extremely fine tennis played. 
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
 
GROUP ONE
Winner: Amer Jahangir
An incredible group comes to a close with two players deadlocked at the top with the same number of wins, losses and points! Defending champion Amer just takes the group though, as he beat Leopoldo into second place by virtue of winning their encounter. Fittingly, it was a very close match, going to a deciding set which Amer edged 6-4. Leopoldo need not be downhearted as he also had a terrific round, winning tight three-setters against Uche and David, as well as two marginal sets against Bernard. As if that wasn't enough, David in third place recorded three wins, and was the only player to beat Amer - this was arguably the match of the round, finishing 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Congratulations to Amer on retaining his title, but everyone contributed to a great group.
 
GROUP TWO
Winner: Avery Jackson
Avery finished the round unbeaten as he took group two, though he had to show real fighting spirit to beat Jane and Jason - he was a set down in both matches. Add these to comments he made of wins over Charlotte ("thank God it didn't go to three sets otherwise I would have been in trouble") and Tose ("very competitive, excellent game") and it really has been a hard-fought and deserved group win for Avery. Elsewhere, Jason, Tose and Jane all picked up a couple of wins, and Terry just beat Charlotte in two very close sets. Another really close and busy group, and well done to Avery on a fine display throughout.
 
GROUP THREE
Winner: Ed Oladeji
Ed was the star of the show in group three, winning all 5 of his matches, though he needed to come from a set down against closest challenger Luke. He also enjoyed a good round, as did Ergian and Simon who managed to pick up healthy point totals. One of the best matches involved Simon beating Marc in a tight three-setter, and Simon wrote to us during the round:
"Thanks for all your brilliant work. My tennis has improved a great deal!"
Great to hear, and hopefully others feel the same way. For now, Ed will be hoping to maintain his momentum for next time, as he looks set to be in a higher group.
 
GROUP FOUR
Winner: Marcin Pajek
Close groups were a theme of this round in the Broomfield League, and group four was no exception. In the busiest group of the round, in which all but two possible matches were played (87%!), Marcin took it by just a point from Jason and Hugo, after he won three matches and a set in his other, unfinished match. Jason picked up three excellent wins of his own, while Hugo won a cracking three-setter with William. Elsewhere, William won a three-setter of his own against Ronnie, while Mickey showed that with a few more completed matches he may have been a threat to the top - he beat second placed Jason, and was locked at one-set-all with eventual winner Marcin. However, Marcin takes the plaudits on this occasion, a good round which will be rewarded by the customary winner's prizes and certificate!


The mid point for bonus points and a FREE tube of tennis balls is Sunday 7th August 2011.
