Appropriately enough, the round ends and the heaven' open. But what a round it has been with an incredible 86% of all matches played. We've really enjoyed seeing the results come in and watching the battles to top the groups emerge. Thank you all for supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court. The next round starts on Monday April 30 and runs until June 24. Many thanks to all those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the deadline is Tuesday April 27. As usual, players who have done well will be promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it has been close). You can pay by paypal here And now, on to the groups... GROUP ONE Winner: Sebastian Deaconu Making his debut in Broomfield Park, Sebastian was very impressive throughout, and won all five of his matches without dropping a set. Closest challenger and defending champion Amer ran him close, forcing him into a second set tie-break, but Sebastian was able to come out on top. Amer finished just a couple of points behind with four wins of his own, while the group ultimately came down to a decider between Sebastian and Uche. Both players went into the game with four wins out of four (Sebastian holding the advantage of bonus points) and knowing that a win would seal the group for either player. Sebastian edged two tight sets, and Uche's excellent round (which would have been enough to take many other groups) could only see him finish in third! Elsewhere, Luke finished in fourth with a couple of victories, but this round belonged to the newcomer, and Sebastian has quickly established himself as the man to beat at Broomfield! GROUP TWO Winner: James Osmond James was similarly impressive in group two, emerging victorious from all five of his matches, including tight wins over both Peter and Tim, who ran him really close in the final standings. Peter was just a point behind by the end of the round, having picked up three wins and bonus points, while Tim won three out of four. A late surge from Aaron also put him in the running, and though he was just pipped to third place by Tim, he recorded a fantastic three-set win against Peter. This was an extraordinarily busy group, with every player managing at least four matches, and this is reflected in the tightness of the points totals. James has done very well to come away with a 100% record, and he can look forward to the challenges of group one next time. | GROUP THREE Winner: Kevin Lynch Another debutant emerging as group winner, with Kevin taking group three. He won all six matches, though there were some scares along the way; he dropped the first set to Saul in a truly epic tie-break, finishing at 13-11. Nevertheless, he recovered to take the match, and this ultimately proved crucial as there was just one point between the players by the end of the round. Kevin also wrote in after his most recent victory, against Vannessa: "A much closer contest than the scoreline suggests." Saul really made Kevin sweat for the win, taking his other five matches to rack up 13 points, while Faraz had a solid round in third place. Once again, this group moved at a hectic pace, and in fact we were just one away from having every single possible match played! A truly great effort and we are very grateful to you all. Well done again to Kevin on a superb start to life in the Broomfield league. The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time. |
