It has been a good
round, with some very close groups and lots of competitive matches to keep
things exciting!
Thank you all for
supporting the league. We are, as ever, very grateful for the hard work you put
in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court. Slowly but surely,
you are helping breathe new life into park tennis, and less we forget to say it,
we are extremely lucky to have facilities like those in Bush Hill and
Broomfield parks.
The next round
starts soon on Monday November 28 and runs until February 5 2012.
Many thanks to all
those who have already joined, and if you haven’t, but would like to, the
deadline is Friday November 25. As usual, players who have done well will be
promoted (usually the winner of a group, but often the runner up too when it
has been close).

go to our winners, a couple of messages - including a chance to save at Millet

And now, to the
winners...
GROUP ONE
Winner: Leopoldo Dal
Bianco
Leopoldo was
mightily impressive for the duration of round 7, winning all 4 of his matches
to take his first ever Broomfield title! None of his matches were
straightforward though, and it took great effort to beat David in two
hard-fought sets, and to come from a set behind to beat Avery 7-5 in the
decider. A worthy winner then, but he hardly had a moment to relax as defending
champion Amer pushed him all the way. He won 3 matches of his own, including a
thrilling three-setter with David. In a group awash with three-set matches, the
pick was David's win over Avery - after two tie-break sets, the third went all
the way to 7-5! Great stuff from everyone, and Leopoldo deserves great credit
for winning all his matches in such a tight group.
GROUP TWO
Winner: Bernard
Mulligan
Bernard pipped Sam
right at the death in group two, winning their match (on the last day of the
round) to take the group! Both players had great rounds though, and finished on
10 points each. Sam looked to have it sewn up with just a couple of weeks to
go, until Bernard won 4 matches in a matter of weeks to pinch top spot. Aside
from this fascinating battle, Uche managed to beat Tim, who in turn squeezed
past Marcin in a close match. An exciting finale was a fitting conclusion to
the group, well done to Bernard on overhauling such a big lead.
