With Wimbledon a distant memory and the US Open still weeks away, what better time than to announce the winners of the Acton & Southfield Park league!
All in all it has been a very good round, with 4 players earning their bonus points and free tennis balls and there were some very close matches - with plenty of three-setters and tie breaks to keep things exciting!
Thank you all for supporting the league. We are as ever very grateful for the hard work you put in scheduling your matches and for your efforts on court.
GROUP ONE
Winner: Richard Morrow
Group one was extremely competitive and very busy, with 10 of a possible 15 matches being completed and four of you collecting your bonus points! Congratulations to Richard on a fantastic display, winning all four of his matches to take the top spot, with 10 points. However, he was made to work hard for his wins, particularly against Alvaro (who took him to three sets) and defending champion Liam, an incredible match finishing 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.
Just one point behind Richard was our runner-up Alvaro, who won his other three matches. Again, the competitive nature of the group shone through as all these matches contained a tie-break, and the match against Aidan went to a deciding set. Albert, Aidan and Liam all put in solid showings in this group as well, and the considerable number of exciting matches bodes well for the next round. Can Richard hold on to his hard-fought title?
GROUP TWO
Winner: Robin Marsden
An exciting battle at the top of group two, which was eventually decided in the final match of the round. Gabor beat Robin in that match, but by virtue of the set Robin won he takes the group win with 7 points! Congratulations to Robin, who had good wins over Alex, Chris and Muireann along the way. Gabor finished just one point behind having won all three of his matches, while Alex was a further couple of points back after he won two matches. As just over half of the possible matches were completed, this round could have ended up differently, but well done again to Robin for an impressive display!
