GROUP ONE Winner: James Cornish James Cornish completed his round with a win over Duncan, to make it 5 wins out of 5 and take his first ever group one title in the KB league. He had an impressive round, coming through tough three-setters with James Lailey and Chris, and is a worthy winner. Steve finished as runner-up after a couple of good wins, as well as an unfinished match with Chris that was intriguingly poised at one set all. James Lailey made a great go of defending his title, beating Steve after being a set down, but in the end it was his namesake who proved too strong this time! | GROUP TWO Winner: Moses Kabba In an incredibly close finish, Moses takes group two by a single point, having won 3 of his 5 matches. He also picked up what turned out to be a vital point in his defeat to Shannon, and he reported midway through this encounter: "I played Shannon on 25 Sep for an hour and won the first set 6-2, we then played on the 30th and she won second on a tie-break. Shannon served extremely well and put an extra kick on her forehand." Finishing just a point back, and with the only 100% record in the group, Andrew will feel he should have won the group, but in the end not getting his bonus points cost him. He had a great round, beating players like Moses and Sam without dropping a set. Tim also ended up on 8 points, most notably beating David in an epic three-setter. With some good wins of their own, Sam and David were in the mix, while Shannon picked up a couple of victories. All in all, a really competitive group, and well done to Moses on a strong round.
GROUP THREE Winner: Will Asher Another close one, with both Will and Matthew Moody finishing on 6 points. In the end, it came down to their encounter, and Will won in straight sets to take the crown. Both players had excellent rounds, recording 3 wins each, and the pick was Matthew's win over Matthew Neuberger, in which he lost the first set tie-break but recovered to take the match in three. Though not as busy as the other groups, this one still had its fair share of excitement, and once again, well done Will!
The winners will be receiving their £20 prizes and certificates and we do hope to welcome you all back next time.
